How FilingExplorer Newsroom works (and what all this carrying on is about)

Our Mission

FilingExplorer is a real-time analysis platform for SEC filings and other regulatory disclosures. Our newsroom uses the same tools available to our customers to identify significant patterns in regulatory data and report on them with full source transparency.

We cover notable filings, patterns in filings, and cross-signal analysis which considers filings in addition to fundamentals and price action. If we report a story, we have the data to back it up.

What We Cover

Our reporting focuses on signals derived from public regulatory filings as well as opinions that we might form from these signals.

  • Insider Transactions - Patterns in executive and director trading activity from SEC Form 4 filings
  • Corporate Events - Material developments disclosed in 8-K filings, including restructurings, leadership changes, and strategic shifts
  • Institutional Holdings - Significant position changes from 13F filings
  • Lobbying Activity - Spending patterns and policy engagement from federal lobbying disclosures
  • Cross-Signal Analysis - Stories that emerge when multiple filing types converge on the same entity

How We Work

Sources

Every factual claim in our articles traces back to a primary source document. We link directly to SEC EDGAR filings, lobbying disclosure records, and other public regulatory databases. When we cite a number, you can verify it yourself.

We do not rely on anonymous sources, press releases, or secondhand reporting for our core factual claims. Our primary sources are the filings themselves.

Technology

FilingExplorer uses automated systems to scan regulatory filings, identify statistically significant patterns, and generate initial article drafts. Our technology pipeline includes:

  • Signal Detection - Automated scanners analyze new filings as they're published, identifying patterns that meet our significance thresholds
  • Automated Drafting - Initial article drafts are generated from filing data using large language models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google
  • Fact-Checking - Every factual claim is extracted and verified against the source data before publication
  • Editorial Review - An automated editorial review evaluates each article for accuracy, tone, and completeness

We believe in being transparent about our use of AI. Automation allows us to cover regulatory filings at a scale and speed that would be impossible with a traditional newsroom, while our verification pipeline enforces accuracy standards on every article.

Human Oversight

No article is published without human review. Our automated pipeline produces drafts, verifies facts, and flags editorial issues, but a human editor makes the final decision on every story. Articles may be revised, held for additional reporting, or killed entirely at the human editor's discretion.

Accuracy & Corrections

Verification

Before publication, each article goes through a structured verification process:

  1. Claim Extraction - Every factual assertion is identified and categorized
  2. Source Verification - Quantitative claims (dollar amounts, dates, counts, names) are checked against the original filing data
  3. Editorial Review - The complete article is reviewed for misleading implications, missing context, and proportionate tone

We report our fact-check confidence score internally. Articles with unresolved critical claims are not published.

Corrections Policy

We take errors seriously. When we identify an error in a published article:

  • Factual corrections are made promptly, with a correction notice appended to the article noting what was changed and when
  • Clarifications are added when the original text, while not factually wrong, could reasonably mislead readers
  • Retractions are issued if an article's central thesis is found to be unsupported

If you believe we've made an error, please contact us or click the "Feedback" button that is available on the bottom-right of most pages of FilingExplorer.com. We review every report.

Attribution

Articles generated through our automated pipeline are attributed to FilingExplorer Newsroom. Articles written or substantially rewritten by a named journalist carry their individual byline.

In all cases, FilingExplorer is the publisher and takes editorial responsibility for the content.

Independence

FilingExplorer is independently operated by Giant Octopus, LLC. Our reporting is not influenced by advertisers, investors, or the companies we cover. We do not accept payment for coverage or favorable treatment in our analysis.

We may cover companies in which our staff hold long or short positions. Any such position is disclosed where material to the story.
